Complications That Arise From Diabetes
by Jim Bruce
Diabetes is a serious disease that gives rise to many other health conditions that hang over people from all walks of life. It is a health condition that results from abnormal production of insulin in your body or the misuse of glucose within the body. There are many different health problems that can arise from having diabetes. This condition needs constant monitoring regarding the blood levels of insulin or glucose.
Diabetes: Heart Disease And Stroke
Diabetes contributes to heart disease and stroke due to the fatty deposits that accumulate in the arteries. Having elevated levels of glucose can lead to excess fatty deposits in the interior of our blood vessels. These deposits restrict the flow of blood and increase the chances of a clogged artery and hardening of the blood vessels. These are warning signs and symptoms of a possible heart attack or stroke if not controlled properly.
Diabetes Can Lead to Nerve Damage
Nerve damage caused by diabetes result in numbness, pain or weakness of the limbs or extremities. These are known as Diabetic Neuropathies. The causes of this condition are the malfunctioning of the veins and nerves that bring blood to the end destination veins and capillaries due to fatty deposits in the arterial walls and some autoimmune factors that contribute to enlargement or inflammation of the veins and nerves.
Diabetes May Lead to Eye Disease
Having high blood sugar and high blood pressure can damage your eyes and result in blindness or partial loss of vision. Diabetes can cause the nerves in your eyes to swell, become inflamed, and eventually weaken. This will result in restricted blood flow to the eyes, thus prompting the eyes to produce new blood vessels which are weak and break off easily. This leads to blood leaks in the eyeball causing blockage in vision.
Diabetes May Cause Kidney Disease
Kidney failure is a condition where our kidneys can not properly rid the body of wastes. This condition can be caused by diabetes. Your kidneys filter out the wastes of your body and when this function stops or is disrupted, your body will begin to deteriorate. It is often a combination of hypertension and diabetes that causes kidney failure.
Diabetes Causes Gum and Tooth Problems
Diabetes can contribute to teeth and gum problems by promoting the growth of bacteria through plaque deposits on your teeth. Elevated glucose encourages germ growth thus resulting in more plaque.
Diabetes can cause many complications that can threaten your life. Managing your blood glucose levels and controlling your diabetes can help to prevent or alleviate the complications caused by this serious health condition. Having a family history of the disease increases your risk as well as being overweight.
