The Difficulty Of Obesity In Children Versus in Adults
by Jim Bruce
Obesity is alarming because it is growing rapidly and is now growing amongst our children as well. Obesity usually occurs due to overeating but also can be due to genetic factors, stress and other medical conditions. When looking at obesity in children versus adults, you will find a number of reasons why the factors differ.
Adults face obesity because of a lack of dedication to healthy eating habits and exercise. This is just one difference between obesity in children versus adults. For example, we eat lunch while working at the computer after having missed breakfast and that makes us twice as hungry. Because of this, we order too much and eat it all because we don't realize we are overeating as our mind is preoccupied with the work we are doing on the computer.
Our brain takes an average of twenty minutes to realize that our stomach is full, however, we can take approximately half of that amount to eat a hamburger and fries, which unfortunately provides us with the calories we require for the whole day, and which we are not going to use because we are sitting in front of our computer. The same routine unfortunately applies at home as we eat in front of the television and the extra calories soon turn into excess weight, which results in obesity.
We Are Our Children's Role Models
Our lifestyles unfortunately affect our children directly, however, there are vast differences in obesity in children versus adults, and they are: obesity in children often cannot be fully treated while in adults it can almost always, children with obesity often develop many other disorders and complications which can be fatal while the adults can usually control them with ease.
The obesity in children versus adults is worse because, while the adults can follow strict diet plans and exercise, children often need to ensure the intake of some foods that maintains their weight because of the fact that they are still in the growing process and cutting certain things out can affect other parts or functions of the body.
Other Facts About Obesity In Children Versus in Adults
Obesity in children and adults can often be diagnosed in the genes and thus, the parents should be careful right from the start, teaching their child to eat healthy and exercise because, if you make your child aware of obesity, your child will learn to eat healthy and enjoy it at the same time. The other problem about obesity in children versus in adults is that children cannot adapt as quickly to a strict diet as adults can without getting stressed and this can result in other disorders in the long run.
Depending on the age of your child, it is extremely hard to explain to him or her why he or she cannot eat certain foods or that he or she is allowed to only eat one slice; such treatments can have serious social, developmental and psychological side effects on your child, due to which it is much more difficult to deal and treat obesity in children versus adults.
