A Guide To Child Obesity Genetics And Prevention
by Jim Bruce
Obesity is most commonly associated with overeating, however, that is not always the case, as with child obesity, genetics are yet another cause that is a prime factor. Statistics show that approximately 65% of the US population is suffering from some form of obesity and that approximately of 35% of these are due to child obesity genetics in their medical history. People that are overweight and obese because of this genetic factor may be able to pass it on to their children.
Regular Check Ups Are A Must To Prevent Obesity
Your medical history will be able to show if your genes are predisposed to obesity. Your history will give you clues as to whether you have a predisposition to obesity and if you are likely to pass it on to your children. You cannot correct child obesity genetics. But, if you are aware that you or your child is predisposed to this disorder, you can take preventive steps to help keep in good health and prevent your child from becoming overweight.
Let your child know as they grow up about the child obesity genetics in their medical history. Tell them that they are not only in danger of getting obese, but they can pass it on to their children. Educating your child about their disorder will make a huge difference in them maintaining a slim figure and good health.
Prevention Of Obesity Without Obsessing
Knowing about a disorder such as obesity can cause a lot of stress in your child's life. If you don't make this information available to your child in a way in which they are able to deal with it naturally and not obsessively. Starving yourself and becoming anorexic is as bad as overeating. Such an obsession can become self destructive. Parents that are or have suffered from overweight issues and know about child obesity genetics often make the mistake of obsessing over their child's eating habits. This causes him or her more harm in the process and may lead to deepening the disorder.
There are many other conditions to worry about when you know that your child is predisposed to obesity. Some of these are hypertension, cardiovascular diseases that usually occur only when your child is already obese, sleep apnea, diabetes and heart attack. However, obesity can be prevented, when you are aware of the child obesity genetics being present. The prime tools to the prevention of overweight disorders are healthy nutrition and exercise.
Eat Healthy And Exercise To Prevent Becoming Overweight
Children that have a problem because of obesity genes may have to be slightly more careful about the food they eat and their exercise routine as well. They may have to undergo different types of treatments during puberty or pregnancy. As they grow up they will have to pay attention to their eating habits and exercising in order to maintain the right weight during the hormonal imbalances of the teenage years. However, obesity can be prevented and treated successfully under the watchful eye of your family physician. One can lead a happy, healthy and full life despite child obesity genetics in your life.
